Interview with Dawn Heneberry
Q: What about serving clients brings you joy?
Dawn: Jim and I were talking about this the other day. I like to be able to use all of this specialized knowledge and experience I have, regarding financial planning…trusts….estates…and so on to make recommendations that aid in improving the lives of clients and their families. “[At this point Dawn shares a client example regarding simple and complex trusts, I’ll spare you the details that showed how she enjoyed making a ‘simple’ [to her] recommendation that no one else had considered. The recommendation was followed and all parties were extremely happy with the end result.]
I like to fix things like that. I enjoy being able to help clients figure things out.
Q: If our clients could know one bizarre fact about you what would it be?
Dawn: I teach water aerobics in Jamaica one week each year. The guests love to be in the pool, they can have their beverage of choice, get a little exercise, and of course have fun.
Q: What do you do for fun?
Dawn: Pilates, fitness, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, and biking. I am also a UVA alumna, and follow all Virginia sports!
Q: What about ODCM, in your own words, is important for our clients to know?
Dawn: Here at ODCM you are part of the family. We will take care of you like we take care of our family. That’s how I feel.
Q: What goals do you have for ODCM?
Dawn: I like where we are now. Many years ago we transitioned from investments to wealth management/financial planning. Clients always come first, we want to do what’s best for them.
Q: What about financial planning is compelling to you?
Dawn: Next to your physical heath, your financial health is one of the most important things in your life. Increases in life expectancy, better medicine, and better health practices mean people are living longer and need to plan not to outlive their resources.
Q: How do you find ways to give back to the community?
Dawn: As a volunteer, my roles are often related to finances I am currently chairing the Capital Campaign for the new Center at Belvedere (formerly the Senior Center). In the past I worked closely with the Charlottesville area Community Foundation and the Charlottesville Rotary Club to improve the quality of life in our area.
Q: Any general statement or closing message for our clients?
Dawn: My door is always open. If there is anything I can do to help, I’m more than happy to do so!
